Dave Coast’s Weekend Getaway

If you grew up with a television, you sort of grew up in Los Angeles. And while I grew up thousands of miles away from the City of Angels, nowadays, I’m very lucky to call this sunny sprawling metropolis my home. I live four blocks from the Pacific Ocean in the funky little enclave that is Venice, California. It’s not unusual to run into a friend here since this is one part of LA where most people actually walk, bike or scooter their way around town. It’s a great place to people-watch, go shopping or hang out at the beach to catch some rays.

Lucky Brand's Venice Burnout collection captures the laid-back vibe of the neighborhood with an array of soft, easy to layer pieces that are perfect for a spring day at the beach or local California mountaintop. To go out and grab a coffee, I like to throw on a pair of jeans, a burnout tee, and layer with a jacket—perfect for those cooler mornings by the beach. White jeans are an easy way to capture that Southern California vibe and they can be styled to perfection with a few subtle pops of color and a neutral jacket.

Sequoia National Park, Ca
While on a recent trip to the Sequoia National Forest, I brought my favorite pieces along for the adventure.  Denim is my go-to on road trips because it’s great for layering and goes with pretty much everything.  One of my absolute favorites from the collection is the 1970's Smokey Tee.  It captures the nostalgia of visiting National Parks as a kid and also looks and feels like an old favorite.  I paired it with a camo jacket and brown leather boots to give it a “mountain man” feel.

Sequoia is only a 3-hour drive from LA and it’s a great destination for hiking, camping and exploring.  The Sequoia tree is a redwood and it’s also the single largest living organism on the planet. For nature buffs, it’s a site worth seeing. Pro Tip: Be sure to catch the sunset up on Moro Rock for the best views in the park.

For the drive back to LA, I threw on a pair of black jeans, a green bomber jacket, my favorite denim shirt and some Chelsea boots so I could head straight from the mountain to brunch on the boardwalk at my favorite café, Great White.
